PART 1
Coordinator: Hello, Summer Projects, Mrs. Davis speaking.
Mark: Hi, I’m calling to get some information about a volunteer project.
Coordinator: Certainly. We have two main projects this summer. The 'Mountain Paths' project is already full. Are you calling about the 'Green Fields' project?
Mark: Yes, that's the one. Could you tell me what the main activity is?
Coordinator: Of course. The volunteers do a few things, like teaching English to local children or organizing games, but the main job is helping the local farmers with the rice harvest. It’s hard work but very rewarding.
Mark: That sounds interesting. What about accommodation? Where do volunteers stay?
Coordinator: Well, last year, volunteers stayed in a guesthouse, but it was a bit inconvenient. So this year, you'll be staying with a local family. It’s a great way to experience their culture. They are very hospitable.
Mark: That’s fantastic! And how do we get to the village?
Coordinator: You can't get there directly by bus. Some people drive, but the group travels together. We all take the train from the central station. It’s much more relaxing.
Mark: The train, okay. And who should I send my application to?
Coordinator: My name is Mrs. Davis, but the main project leader you need to email is Mr. Thompson. That's T-H-O-M-P-S-O-N.
Mark: Thompson. Got it. Thank you very much for your help.
PART 2
Liam: Hey Emily. You’re always on your phone. Do you like surfing the net that much?
Emily: Oh, hi Liam. You know me, I’m crazy about it! I check my notifications every hour. I love connecting with my friends. What about you?
Liam: Wow, not me. I log on sometimes, but I'm not that into it. I find it a bit boring.
Emily: Really? I enjoy browsing different websites, but I prefer using social media to connect with my friends and family. It’s so user-friendly.
Liam: I guess. I’m just feeling a bit of pressure at the moment. It's hard to focus on anything else.
Emily: Is it from schoolwork? The midterm exams are coming up.
Liam: Exactly. My parents have high expectations, sure, but that's not the main thing. The real pressure is from the midterm exams. I have to study harder; otherwise, I might fail.
Emily: I know what you mean. The stress can be tough. I find that talking to my friends really helps. We share our problems, and it makes me feel better.
Liam: That’s a good idea. I should try that. So, are you joining any clubs this year?
Emily: I’m thinking about the arts and crafts club. You?
Liam: I was in the chess club last year, and it was fun. But this year, I want to try something new, so I’m thinking about the sports club. I need to be more active.
Emily: The sports club sounds great. You should go for it!
