PART 1: Dialogue

Mark: Hey Anna, are you excited about the Spring Festival tomorrow? We need to finalize our plans. Anna: Definitely! The opening ceremony starts at 9:30. I think we should meet an hour early to get good seats. So, 8:30? Mark: 8:30 is a bit too early for me. I have to walk the dog first. How about 9:00? That still gives us 30 minutes before it starts. Anna: Okay, 9:00 is fine. Let's meet at the town square. Mark: Great. Now, about transport. I usually take the bus because it's cheap, but I heard the bus route is closed for the parade tomorrow. Anna: Oh, right. My dad offered to drive us, but his car broke down. Mark: Well, the train station is near the square. Let’s just take the train. It’s faster anyway. Anna: Agreed. What are you wearing? It’s going to be hot. Mark: I was thinking about just a T-shirt and shorts. Anna: Mark! It’s a traditional festival. People respect the customs there. You shouldn't wear shorts. Mark: You're right. I don't have a traditional costume, so I’ll just wear a nice shirt and jeans. Anna: Good idea. There are so many activities. I really want to see the fireworks, but that's in the evening. Mark: The food cooking competition is at noon. Anna: That sounds delicious, but honestly, I’m going there mainly for the lion dance. It’s supposed to be amazing this year. Mark: Okay, lion dance it is. Oh, wait! I almost forgot. Do we need to bring anything? Anna: I’ll bring the drinks and some snacks. I was going to bring the camera, but my lens is broken. Can you bring yours? Mark: Sure, I'll pack the camera tonight.

PART 2: Monologue

Mr. Robinson: Good morning everyone. Today we are visiting a traditional family in the village. To show respect, it’s important to follow their customs. Here are a few tips. First, about entering the house. In many Western countries, you might keep your shoes on. However, here it is a strict tradition to take off your shoes at the door. You don't need to worry about cold feet; the floor is very clean, and they usually don't use slippers inside. Next is the seating arrangement. When you walk into the dining room, please don't just sit anywhere. Custom dictates that you must wait until the eldest person in the family sits down. Only after they are seated should you take your seat. It shows great respect for longevity. When you are eating, you might need to pass bowls or dishes to others. Never use just one hand to pass something. It is considered rude or lazy. Always use both hands when passing or receiving anything at the table. Now, conversation. It’s good to talk, but be careful with the topic. You can compliment the food or talk about the weather. I know you are here on a business trip, but please, do not talk about business or money at the dinner table. It ruins the family atmosphere. Finally, when the meal is over, don't rush out. I know you might be tired, but it is polite to stay for a cup of tea and chat for a little while. It strengthens the family bonding.
