Part 1: Dialogue (Mark and Emma)
Mark: Hi Emma. Have you started the history project about the castle yet?
Emma: Not yet, Mark. I'm actually planning to go there this weekend to look around. Do you want to come?
Mark: Sure! I haven't been there for ages. It’s the one next to the river, right?
Emma: No, you’re thinking of the old palace. The castle is the big stone building on top of the hill, overlooking the town.
Mark: Oh, right! I remember now. Shall we go on Saturday morning?
Emma: Saturday morning is difficult for me. I was going to visit my grandmother, but she changed the plan to Sunday. However, I still have a piano lesson at 10 a.m on Saturday. Can we go in the afternoon?
Mark: Afternoon works for me. Should we cycle there? It’s good exercise.
Emma: I’d love to, but my bike has a flat tyre. My dad is using the car, so we’ll have to take the bus.
Mark: No problem. The bus stops right outside the gate. By the way, entrance is £5. Do you have cash?
Emma: Yes. I have my wallet and my phone. Oh no!
Mark: What? Did you forget something?
Emma: I left my camera at home. I wish I had brought it to take photos for the project.
Mark: Don't worry, my phone takes great pictures. We should focus on the old tower. The guide says the garden is pretty, but the tower is the most famous part because it's 500 years old.
Part 2: Monologue (Mr. Harrison)
Mr. Harrison: Good evening, everyone. Thank you for coming to this talk about "Remembering the Past." Many people believe our town is very ancient. While we have some old buildings, the town itself isn't that old. We are celebrating a big anniversary today, but we were actually founded 120 years ago, not 100.
Let's talk about daily life. If you go to the market today, it’s quite peaceful, with just a few shops. But a century ago, it was the noisiest place in town. Farmers brought animals, and people were shouting and selling things all day long.
Another big difference is the traffic. Today, cars occupy every road. Back then, there were very few cars. It was so safe that children used to run and play games in the middle of the street.
We also had a tram system for transport. It looked nice, but it was very slow and broke down often. Honestly, I'm glad we have modern buses now. I don't wish for the return of the trams at all.
Finally, if you want to see photos of these things, please visit the town museum. It’s open from Tuesday to Sunday. Please remember, we are closed on Mondays for cleaning. Thank you.
