TAPESCRIPTS & EXPLANATION
PART 1: Dialogue
Mark: Hi Julia. Thanks for coming over. Julia: No problem, Mark. I know we need to submit our geography presentation tomorrow. Mark: Exactly. My brother asked if I wanted to go to the cinema to see the new Marvel movie, but I told him I had to work on this project with you. Julia: Good choice. So, we are focusing on the Bahnar ethnic group, right? Mark: Yes. I think they are fascinating, especially their architecture. Julia: I agree. That’s actually why I voted for this group. I really like their communal house, the Rong house. It looks so tall and powerful. Mark: It stands on wood posts, right? I saw a picture. Is the roof made of tiles? Julia: No, not tiles. You might think it looks like wood or heavy material because it's so big, but the roof is actually made of dried grass or bamboo. It’s very thick. Mark: I see. And it's only for the village chief to live in? Julia: No, nobody lives there permanently. It’s a place for community activities, like meetings or traditional festivals. Mark: Got it. Okay, let's put the slides together. I’ve done the introduction. Are you ready? Julia: Well, almost. I have written all the text for my part, but I still need to download some high-quality photos. I’ll do that right now.
PART 2: Monologue
Dr. Alice: Good morning, students... First, let's talk about their costume... They don't buy coloured fabric. They weave their own cotton and dye it with the indigo plant. This makes the cloth dark blue, almost black. Next is the food... For example, to get the purple colour, they boil a specific leaf from the forest and use that water to cook the rice. If you want to buy souvenirs... In this village, everyone meets on Sunday morning. Music is also a big part of their life... But I was most surprised by how they make music using just a leaf. Finally, about their homes... Sadly, these days, some families are taking down the wooden houses. They prefer to build modern houses made of concrete and brick...
